It’s been a very long time since I posted about Gadgeteer and .NET Micro Framework. I haven’t done much with it because for a while I was wondering why the SDKs wouldn’t install on Windows 8 Release Preview and then I realised that it was because I was using Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate RC. So I was searching some forums and what not until I realised that some people had managed to get the SDK to install after they had installed VS2010.
Now that I have Windows 8 Pro installed on my desktop with both VS2012 Professional and VS2010 Ultimate installed I had a lot more success installing the SDK for .NET Micro Framework and the extras that I needed for the Gadgeteer kit that Rob Miles was kind enough to lend me for the holiday.
So I suppose the first place to head is to the Gadgeteer website and download the .NET Micro Framework 4.1 SDK. If you haven’t got a full copy of Visual Studio, using VS2010 C# Express is good enough.
Once you’ve got VS2010 installed on your Windows 8 machine, it’s just as simple as installing the SDK and then acquiring the various drivers you need for your device. If you have the FEZ Hydra or Spider you can head over to the GHI website to get all the resources you need.
If you have any problems, just get in touch and I will be glad to help!
