Ever since getting a Windows 8 tablet, I’ve found myself downloading and using more of the apps available in the Windows Store. One such application is PhotoFunia, an application that I have previously used on Windows Phone.
The application, like its name, allows you to have fun with your photos by adding some cool effects and filters to them to create a new modified image. The best images to use are ones with a clear face in them (load up the selfies). When you choose a filter from the application, it will send the images off to the cloud, process them by detecting faces and then manipulate them to the filter or effect you chose! It’s that simple.
When you open up the PhotoFunia application on Windows 8, you’ll be greeted with the grid design pattern that you see across Windows 8 apps showing a multitude of effects from the apps recommended to the most popular. You can even chose your own favourites so you don’t have to hunt them down in the categories section. From the point of posting, the app now has 349 different effects in many different categories for you to choose from. Now it will take too long to go through them all, so I will just show you one of my favourites.
Different effects allow you to upload a different number of photos, in the case of this Film Photography effect, you can upload two different photos. When you’ve selected an effect from the list, you’ll get this display above which allows you to choose your photos and will give you examples about how your photo will look after it has been rendered. The app allows you to pick photos from all over your Windows 8 device and SkyDrive so don’t worry about having to download photos to use!
When you’re happy with the photos you’ve chosen, you select Go and off it goes to the cloud!
Then you get back a photo with an effect added to the photos you chose like above! Looks good doesn’t it. You can even save it back to your device or share it with your friends using the Share charm.
I would highly recommend this application to anyone that is interested in playing around with their photos. It serves as a great addition to many photo sharing applications to add cool effects that those just don’t.
The application itself is free on the Windows Store and there aren’t any in-app purchases for more filters so all 349 are there for you to use! You can download it here: http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-gb/app/photofunia/8cbe323a-37ea-49d5-9a7f-333606414e4e
